Sarah’s work is primarily influenced by nature, with its intricate patterns, unusual shapes, structures and rhythms. Fascinated by the apparent contradiction of power yet fragility of the living earth, she aims to question and make sense of the world in which we live, an endless source to channel into personal art expression. Often captivated by the seeming tension between the rigid, structured representation of man, and the organic, unpredictable flow of the natural world, she enjoys the pressure of experimentation and developing her art making.
Born in Thurso Scotland, Sarah studied at Glasgow School of Art where she originally specialised in sculptural ceramics. She later developed a love of printmaking with a group of fellow artists while in Malta, her work also underwent a shift to abstract imagery, inspired by natural forms. Her passion for teaching visual arts for secondary school students then took her to Germany, where she continued to develop her own visual language and expression through markmaking. After being invested in teaching Visual Arts to others for many years, Sarah has now retired to the South of France, along with a small printing press.
With a background in both ceramics and printmaking, she pulls on these experiences to facilitate and push her boundaries in art practice further. She draws inspiration from her surroundings, intrigued by texture, shape and form, often using vibrant colors and intricate patterns to convey her vision.
Sarah's work has been exhibited in various galleries and art fairs, and she is passionate about sharing her love for art with others. She believes that art has the power to inspire, provoke thought, and connect people across cultures.
In addition to her studio practice, Sarah also teaches art workshops and collaborates with other artists to promote creativity and artistic expression.
